So the Satanists are on the side of Good? Really? No, seriously, really?

I gotta admit, I never expected something like this: the Satanic Temple is on the warpath against recent Catholic/Fundagelical attempts to take away our individual religious freedom. Yes. Yes. Yes, really, you DID read that correctly:

In a statement, the Satanic Temple said that it will use the Supreme Court’s recent Hobby Lobby decision to exempt its believers from state-mandated informed consent laws that require women considering abortions to read pro-life material.

In some states, that information consists of pro-life propaganda that links abortion to a higher incidence of breast and ovarian cancers, or discusses “post-abortion syndrome,” a mental condition not recognized by any major medical or psychiatric organization.

Because the Satanic Temple bases its belief “regarding personal health…on the best scientific understanding of the world, regardless of the religious or political beliefs of others,” it claims that state-mandated information with no basis in scientific fact violates its “religious” beliefs.

Holy cow. This is totally wack. Having been raised in the ecumenical era of the 60’s and early 70’s, when tolerance was the order of the day, I have always seen churches as helpful, benevolent, charitable organizations.

But today, “Christians” are all too often shrill, hate-filled, sadistic separatists who want to punish us for not being more like them. They want to impose their religion upon us, violently if need be, via an extra-constitutional theocratic government. Freedom is anathema to the politicized Fundagelicals of this century.

And who is fighting to protect us from these foam-flecked, shrieking, demented, alleged followers of Rebbe Yeshuah Bar Joseph (who actually follow the teachings of Leviticus and Paul, not Jesus)? Who is standing for religious liberty, respect for others and civil rights for Americans?

Yep, it’s the Satanists who are on the side of the angels. And the Christians who are possessed by demons.

The world has gone truly, totally, deeply, barking mad.

Three Hobby Lobby ObamaCare Facts that will Blow your Mind:

1: Most US employers have been required to provide contraception coverage since the year 2000. The Bush administration enforced the law, which had no religious exemptions (note:the ACA does have religious exemptions, so ObamaCare is actually better for bosses). Did Hobby Lobby sue the Bushies? No, Hobby Lobby did not sue the Bushies.

2: Hobby Lobby invests a lot of money in abortion drug makers, IUD makers, and other such. They have no religious concerns about taking money earned from abortion drugs and other birth control money-makers; they just don’t want to pay out for them.

3: Hobby Lobby has plenty of money to pay for insurance coverage for its employees: why, they are doing so well, they could afford to raise starting wages to fourteen dollars an hour. They did that a year ago.

So, government policy had nothing to do with Hobby Lobby’s lawsuit. And religion had nothing to do with their lawsuit. Money had nothing to do with their lawsuit. Employee retention had nothing to do with their lawsuit. Facts are facts, people, and you cannot argue with them.

So, why DID they sue President Obama? Why did a Fundagelical-run company sue over the ACA? One can only speculate. My theory is that it’s all a big political stunt.

After all, Hobby Lobby covered birth control when the Republicans were in charge. They only squealed when a Democrat got elected President.

Lying, hypocritical, greedy, partisan bastards.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court took away your religious freedom.

They gave it to your employer. From now on, thanks to Hobby Lobby, your employer can screw you anyway they want, and say their religion is the reason. The Right-Wingnut “Justices” all ruled against your liberty and in favor of the right of government and big business to run every intimate aspect of your life. Your boss’s religious freedom is more important than yours:

The majority opinion, written by conservative Justice Samuel Alito, said such a mandate infringes on religious freedom, and therefore can be waived by certain business owners.

But in a blistering, 35-page dissent, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, joined by Justice Sonia Sotomayor, lambasted the majority opinion—delivered by five male justices—as “a decision of startling breadth” that would allow corporations to “opt out of any law … they judge incompatible with their sincerely held religious beliefs.”

The majority view “demands accommodation of a for-profit corporation’s religious beliefs no matter the impact that accommodation may have on third parties who do not share the corporation owners’ religious faith—in these cases, thousands of women employed by Hobby Lobby and Conestoga or dependents of persons those corporations employ,” wrote Ginsburg,

This ain’t just about birth control, and it ain’t just about women. It’s about the rights of the citizens being trampled by the rich and powerful. It’s about the worker’s religious freedom being trumped by their employer’s. It’s about the government and Big Business sticking their  noses into our bedrooms, doctor’s offices and churches (three places We The People want to keep private). It’s about the loss of our freedoms. It’s about the government taking control of our private lives.

Let’s put it plain: the five Republican nutjobs who took away your Constitutional rights were appointed by Republican Presidents and confirmed by mostly Republican Senators. To use a fave Repub phrase: “Republicans hate you, and they hate your freedoms”. Vote for them if you want more of your liberties ripped away.

Vote against them if you would once again live as free men and women. Your choice has rarely been so stark. Or consequential.

PS: The Supremes fucked us all over again yesterday with another anti-worker judgement. More on that later.
